Nutritional Therapy for complex trauma

HEALING BODIES NEED NOURISHMENT AND SUPPORT

As an Embodied Healing practitioner and Certified Functional Nutritional Therapist (FNTP), I believe healing requires an interdisciplinary approach that supports body, mind and spirit together.

Bodies under stress, traumatic or otherwise, often need specific kinds of nourishment that help to both alleviate symptoms associated with long-term or chronic stress and replete and sustain energy levels while engaging in depth-oriented healing processes.

Adjunct Nutritional Therapy aims to support these processes by providing bio-invidiual assessments and protocols to clients that will nourish, support, sustain and heal their bodies and its systems alongside any other emotional, somatic and cognitive work that may be occurring.

What is Functional Nutritional Therapy?

Functional Nutritional Therapy uses a foundational and bio-individual approach to functional, holistic nutrition to balance body chemistry and achieve optimal wellness.

Functional Nutritional Therapists are equipped to support the body’s innate ability to heal by addressing the components of nutrient-dense food, anatomy and physiology, lifestyle choices, culinary wellness and the impact of relational and personal experiences on overall health.

As as FNTP, I have gone through extensive training to learn both evaluative and hands-on skills that allow me to assess nutritional imbalances and deficiencies at both the body system and organ level which are unique to each of my clients and create tailored sets of recommendations designed to support your healing and recovery goals.

How can Nutritional Therapy support Trauma Recovery?

Trauma, at its core, is unresolved and incomplete stress. When we aren’t able to move through and complete a stress cycle, that stress becomes bound in the body via the tissues, nervous system and brain that, overtime, leads to a type of dysregulated function we call dysautonomia - or the adaptive functioning of an autonomic nervous system that is primed toward stress.

While bodies are certainly capable of handling and resolving cycles of stress, when they are left in dysregulated states for long periods of time (perhaps a lifetime), it eventually creates a downstream chain of suboptimal functioning that begins to wear on all the systems of the body managed by the brain.

This can lead to stress-related symptoms and illnesses such as chronic fatigue and pain, autoimmunity or other immune-mediated disease, blood sugar issues, chronic gut dysfunction, inflammatory conditions, thyroid or adrenal insufficiency, hormonal imbalance, infertility and so much more.

By working to gently support and balance the systems of the body through a physiological lens, we aid the healing process by repleting lost nutrients, toning the nervous system, compensating for high stress environments and leading the body toward safety and regulation through the powerful effects of food and appropriate supplementation.
